The Neolithic pottery of Thessaly forms the basis for a study of the Neolithic pottery of Greece as a whole. From its first appearance in the Early Neolithic period (6500-5800 BC), Thessalian pottery was of excellent quality. The first pots were monochrome with the shapes of open bowls. Soon however decoration appears, painted and incised (Proto-Sesklo). Album Description: Sesklo represents an early and advanced civilisation of Neolithic period in Hellas. The ceramic pottery became a basis for dating the Helladic period. Sesklo was inhabited since 7000 BC. Farmed and raised stock around 6500 BC.
